Pflugerville apartment complex 1st phase of city’s ‘Western Gateway’

Since before the last recession, a group of developers have been eyeing the west side of Pflugerville for a mixed-used development akin to a miniature Domain.

On Oct. 27, stakeholders will break ground on the Elliott — an apartment complex that marks the first of 10 planned phases of the Pecan District.

Developers said the property at the corner of Old Austin Pflugerville Road and South Heatherwilde Boulevard will eventually host housing, dining, shopping and office space all in a convenient, walkable area.

The Elliott will offer modern, market price housing, that will likely service Pflugerville school district and city employees who live within walking distance of the property, officials said.

Inside, the property will offer lofted ceilings, up-to-date fixtures and expansive balconies. However, developer Cid Galindo said the real draw of the apartments is what it offers outside.

“Will they be nice? Of course, they will,” he said. “They have to be to be competitive, but we aren’t trying to build luxury apartments. We are trying to build apartments that will feel very different than your traditional garden-style property.”

Instead of buildings spread throughout a surface parking lot, the apartments will flank the edges of the property with vehicles tucked behind them. This will make the property more walkable and allow them to build a community like the Domain, where residents can walk to shop or eat and visitors can stop by just to hang out.

“That’s the 10-year vision,” Galindo said. “We are not going to have it next year, but we are going to have the first piece of the puzzle.”

The project has been a long time coming.
